Fact of the Day...
Title: Hispanic Heritage Month Fact: In 1968, Latino high school students in Los Angeles staged walkouts protesting unequal treatment by the school district. Students were punished for speaking Spanish on school grounds, not allowed to use the bathroom during lunch, and discouraged from continuing education. Participants were subjected to police brutality and public ridicule, and 13 students were arrested for disorderly conduct and conspiracy. The walkouts eventually resulted in school reform and an increased college enrollment among Latino youth.
